Welcome To SOTA: About Us

Where Innovation Is A Standard:

The School of the Arts at Madison High School, San Diego, California (SOTA), is a learning community of the San Diego City Schools. Our project based learning environment introduces students to the three primary areas of the arts: Performance, Design, and Communication. Through instructor developed cross-curricular designs that have students learning not just about the arts, rather through the arts, we raise student achievements levels by nurturing long-term relationships between students and staff. Developed on a federal grant during the 2005-2006 school year, SOTA began operations in 2006-2007 with 200 students and is slated to accept 400 students by its third year of operations.

SOTA is the culmination of the unique vision of the faculty and staff which was awarded the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP, principals.org) “Breakthrough High School of 2006” award and was named one of Americas top high schools by News Week. With an emphasis on personalizing student education SOTA is a place where students thrive in the knowledge of possibilities. With cross-curricular projects our students come to understand not only the fundamentals but also the practical applications of schooled learning. In addition our “SOTA Partnership Programs” have students learning from persons currently working in the industry.

More information on SOTA can be obtained in the SOTA Education Plan for this year or by writing of calling us.
